Jamie Phipps’ “Can Do, No Quit” Attitude Wins Her the Gold Star
It is easy to gravitate toward Bellaire Elementary paraprofessional Jamie Phipps. As one parent put it, Phipps’ attitude is “absolutely contagious.”
“She has a gift and is wonderful working with my child,” the letter read. “She does more with Destination Imagination than anyone and probably never sleeps with everything she has going on … She constantly has a ‘no quit, we can do this, it’s not a problem mindset!’ She provides love to kids that need it, knowledge to help them grow, and a no-nonsense attitude whenever she needs to -- and don’t you dare mess with her Bellaire kids! I feel blessed as a parent that my child gets to interact with Mrs. Jamie every day! She is a godsend!”
Those sentiments were shared by others who nominated Phipps for Bossier Schools’ Gold Star employee award as well as those who celebrated her during the surprise announcement before the entire student body.
“There’s not one thing I can’t count on her for!” gushed Bellaire Principal Alyshia Coulson. “She is amazing and deserving of this Gold Star.”
“It’s just surreal, like I could have been listening to that being written about other people at this school, but they’re writing that about me!” Phipps said in amazement following the assembly.
Her career with Bossier Schools began when she worked on a contractual basis at Bossier Elementary with the Response to Intervention (RTI) program.
“That’s when I fell in love with the kids!” Phipps said.
During that time, her oldest son was a student at Bellaire and on the Destination Imagination team, which Phipps quickly became hooked on. When another leader was needed to start a service learning team, she jumped in head first as a parent volunteer, eventually going to work at Bellaire when a para position came open.
Now, no one at Bellaire can imagine what they would do without the parent-turned-paraprofessional. In addition to her GASP duties, Phipps tracks data for the administration team, helps organize the school’s assemblies and fills in wherever else she is needed.
“I love it,” exclaimed Phipps. “I love the people here at Bellaire. It’s so easy to work with the people here. The teachers, the administrators, the parents, the kids. It’s just a great place and it makes me want to do even more.”
There is no wonder why Jamie Phipps is the hands-down winner of this month’s Gold Star award. Her positive, can-do spirit is definitely contagious!
