BPSB CLOSES ON PROPERTY FOR NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  Bossier Schools continue to grow. 

  The Bossier Parish School Board has acquired property for its newest elementary school, which will help alleviate overcrowding at Legacy and Benton Elementary Schools.

  The School Board closed on the purchase of 43.5 acres at 601 Kingston Road in Benton. The property is located east of Kingston Plantation and north of St. Charles Court between Benton Road and Airline Drive.

  The school will be for Kindergarten through fifth grade and will be designed for a capacity of 1,000 students. Construction will begin in 2013 and be completed for the Fall 2015 school year.

BPSB CLOSES ON TWO PROPERTIES

  The end of 2012 was busy for Bossier Schools. The board closed on two additional properties; one to relieve traffic congestion and the other, for a future school site.

  The Bossier School Board purchased 34 acres of land from Jepson Development on Benton Road, north of Vanceville Road. The location and amount of acreage at 4900 Benton Road makes the site suitable for a possible elementary or middle school location in the future.

  Property was also purchased by the BPSB on Highway 80 in Haughton. The 24 acres adjacent to TL Rodes and Platt Elementary Schools will be used for traffic and parking improvements. Plans call for using the acreage to improve Wrangler Drive, provide an additional driveway to TL Rodes and add about 300 event parking spaces for Rodes and Platt.

  The land was sold by Highway 80 Properties. Co-owner William Paul Lawrence II sold the 24-acre tract, one of the last remaining parts of a 600+ acre tract owned by the Lawrence/Wafer family, which included the land Forest Hills Subdivision now occupies.

  Money for these properties came from the $210 million bond referendum approved by Bossier Parish voters in April 2012.
