Railroad Safety

As the Transportation Department continues to focus on safety, continuing education and awareness to keep our children safe. Please visit Operation Lifesaver's website oli.org as well as our State's Operation Lifesaver website which can be found at LAOperationLifesaver.org to learn more. For interactive training visit the School Bus Driver e-learning Program. This is an interactive  online experience for public and private school bus drivers. The program brings attention to choices bus drivers often make around tracks and trains and is intended to help bus drivers make safer decisions around the tracks. It does not and is not intended to teach you to drive a bus."

The interactive e-Learning program described above can be found by visiting oli.org/schoolbusdriver

Bus Driver Prayer

Please Lord, watch me this day.

Please help me remember to watch all five mirrors, two dozen windows

Eight gauges, six warning lights, six dozen faces

Three lanes of traffic and to keep a third eye open for wobbling bicycles

And day dreaming pedestrians especially teen-agers wearing head sets

Who are in another world.

Please Lord help me hear all train whistles, truck and automobile horns

Police sirens and the two way radio.

Please also let me hear when one of my students calls for me

And just needs a listening ear

Please Lord give me a hand for the gear lever, the steering wheel, The route book, the radio microphone and the turn-signal lever while being able to hand out Kleenexes and other things the kids may need

And Lord please grant me the self-control to keep my hands away from little Johnny’s neck when he’s pinching and biting little Billy , while trying to keep everybody in their seat, and reminding them that sticking their head outside the window is not safe.

And one more thing dear Lord, please don’t let little Mary

be sick all over the bus

And finally Lord please watch over us all

so that we can do it again next year.

Amen.  ~Author Unknown

Driving Tips!!!

Safety!  Safety!  Safety!

stop.jpg

Safety is our biggest priority!

Please remember these tips while bussing students in the next school year!

  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Notify Transportation Department and your school's principals of ALL accidents.
  • Students should cross ONLY in front of the bus in view of the driver.
  • Never leave the bus unattended while the motor is running.
  • Railroad crossings: stop at all crossings no less than 15 ft from and not more than 50 ft from the nearest track, open and close the bus door to look for trains, and make all stops in the far right lane.
  • Use turn signals at least 100 ft from your intended turn.
  • Make sure your bus is inspected twice a year.
  • Schedule routine bus maintenance with the Shop every 5000 miles.
